Abbey Medical practice has an excellent Patient Participation Group who meet once every three months but we realise this small group cannot be entirely representative of our 8,000 strong patient population

2011 - 2012
Our first Patient Survey conducted in 2011 was based on the GPAQ model and evaluated responses from 200 patients who had attended the surgery during 5th -9th July 2011. The results were evaluated at a meeting of our Patient Participation Group who suggested ideas for an action plan based on the survey responses. Three main areas of improvement were identified - Telephone Access, Access to Appointments and Surgery Opening Hours. Improvements were undertaken in line with the action plan and it was hoped that the 2012 survey would reflect efforts made in these areas.
The Patient Group also felt that the 2012 survey should be made simpler and an online version should be made available to use via the practice Website.
The 2012 Patient Survey was remodelled in line with the recommendations of the meeting and a new, simpler survey, designed by Abbey’s website developers for use online and in the surgery, was launched in September 2012. The survey ran until 31st December 2012 and generated 302 responses, an increase of just over 50% on the 2011 survey. 51% of the respondents completed the survey online as opposed to 49% in the surgery. The responses collected in the practice were then added to the online survey where they were collated to give the final report below.
The results were considered at the Patient Participation Group meeting in January 2013 and an action plan was developed.

So, we have established a 'virtual' patient participation group so that you can have your say on our services and offer your suggestions to make things better. The virtual group will be managed by the main Patient Participation chairman, who will email you from time to time with the minutes of the meetings, to ask questions, such as what you think about our opening times or the quality of the care or service you received and to let you know what is happening in the surgery and ask your views about important issues and developments.
We have set ourselves a target of around a hundred patients from as broad a spectrum as possible to get a truly representative sample. So far, most of the patients who have joined our virtual group are in the older age bracket so we need young people, young parents, workers, teenagers, people with long term conditions and people from non-British ethnic groups, male or female – you just need an email address.
